short thread on #KYSen. Look, I want to #DitchMitch as much as any other progressive. But the way to do it is NOT for a white progressive to run against a black progressive to run against a centrist. https://twitter.com/ryangrim/status/1263865934265159681">https://twitter.com/ryangrim/...
Yeah, McGrath has made statements on the trail that might be gaffes or might be her running to the center in Trump country. ("I& #39;d vote to confirm Kavanaugh")
but KY is a hard state for Dems despite that shiny voter registration number. Lots of people in KY registered Dem but vote GOP.
(and it& #39;s especially hard for climate-focused Dems. Coal country, and all that.)
so in #KYSen, we have three leading candidates and enough fringe candidates to start a Wildcats team: (see next tweets)
1. Amy McGrath, DSCC-backed centrist who& #39;s raised millions while aggravating progressives; (I have to do this in 3 tweets) #KYSen
2. Mike Broihier, who touts a Marines/ white working class/ farmer background, supported by Indivisibles (a sign of support among white suburban women), who& #39;s raised (barely) enough money to be competitive; #KYSen
3. Charles Booker, who& #39;s African American, touted by Sunrise and endorsed by colleagues in the state legislature, and who& #39;s raised enough to be viable but still woefully behind McGrath. #KYSen
that& #39;s my prediction of the finish order in the primary, fwiw. Sorry, progressives! I have not surveyed in #KYSen yet. but, this is important and see the next tweet....
everything I& #39;ve seen, every survey I& #39;ve run in other must-win Senate seats is that Dems are going to go for the most electable, not the most progressive. That means McGrath in #KYSen. And whoever the DSCC tells them in IA, ME, etc.
to repeat: the same kind of Dems who chose Biden over many other (IMO better) choices are going to elect McGrath in #KYSen primary over (arguably better) progressive Dems.
meanwhile, and this is why I& #39;m ranting, do you have any idea how likely it is that #KYSen will flip before Iowa, Georgia, Maine Arizona, and more?!?
answer to FAQs, and you should know this by now: Arizona. Colorado. Maine. North Carolina. Pick one: Iowa/ Georgia x2/ Texas/ Montana/ Kansas/ defend Doug Jones in Alabama. That& #39;s how we flip the Senate. #KYSen
I genuinely don& #39;t understand why so many Dems are prioritizing #KYSen, and the clusterf*ck of a primary that will lead to bruised feelings all around, over these eminently more winnable races.
and IMO the best progressive-vs-centrist race, the most winnable, the best chance to say F*ck the Establishment, is #COSen. Support @Romanoff2020, pls. Frackenlooper isn& #39;t just a centrist -- he& #39;s an impediment to progress in a blue state.
So. You want to #DitchMich? Reduce his power. Make him a minority leader. Flip the Senate through AZ, CO, ME, NC, and 1 or more of the "reach" states I mentioned supra in this thread. But pls folk, be smart with your resources.
