Ok I'm going to do a thread on where we are with Marine Corps reform. Some are still looking at FD 2030 as an end point, but it's not. So we'll do an analogy: DOD told USMC to throw a surprise party for the PRC.
So the Marine Corps woke up, had a breakfast of Ibuprofen, Copenhagen, and black coffee, and said, "Shit I gotta plan PRC's surprise party and it's gotta be lit because Chaos said so. I'll make a playlist first."
So the Marine Corps starts flipping through Spotify and is like, "EABO and LOCE are hot right now, and distributed operations is an oldy but a goody. Oh and DMO really slaps. Need some more though."
So the Marine Corps starts downloading some new tunes. Stand-In Forces, a new Crisis Response joint, and a tri-service concept with the Coast Guard who is always good at parties because he tells that story about the time he beat up that submarine with his fists.
That's the CPG. While those are downloading, slowly because barracks internet sucks, the Marine Corps goes to the fridge and starts rummaging through it, pushing aside half-drunk cans of Monster and Natty Light to see what's actually in there.
And the Marine Corps says, "These leftover tanks are old and not designed for this kind of party anyway. So we'll ask the Army to bring tanks because they're good at cooking tanks."
"These M777 cannons aren't great for this either, besides they're just one component of our fire support casserole along with CAS, HIMARs, T-LAMs, and a can of mushroom soup, so we'll use less of them this time. The rest of this stuff we can use though."
So the Marine Corps throws out some leftovers to make room in the fridge and keeps the rest. This is FD 2030.
Now the Marine Corps is sitting on the couch, streaming The Sands of Iwo Jima, and writing a shopping list of everything else it needs to get at Costco for PRC's surprise party. Then it's going to make an MLR as practice prior to party, because it hasn't made one in a while.
That's where we're at. Not the end point of party planning. Maybe the mid-point.
