I'm going to take a quick auntie minute to talk about social media because the @usps reached out to me via @instagram to repost this image. https://twitter.com/nidhiart/status/1250134536492474368
In my youth (still young, btw) I would've jumped at the chance to be featured by the US Postal Service! How awesome! They wrote in their comment that by agreeing to repost I was agreeing to a legal document. They link it in their profile.
I went to read it. The first few items are fairly standard, you're of age, didn't plagiarize, etc
THEN the fun part, second to last
By allowing them to repost my illustration, even though I'd retain copyright (gee, thanks) they would effectively have the ability to modify, edit, share, sell my image for ZERO payment... forever.
No artist should grant use of their work for reposting on social media and give up this large breadth of rights. It's important to read, review and understand agreements.
I still LOVE @usps and would love for them to share my work but not without some major changes to this agreement.
