The myth of Lampard 0-3 Ole and why Lampard at the moment is a better manager
{A thread}
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally hit form after a very inconsistent season for Manchester United. Many United fans who have turned on Ole are finally regaining his side. Obviously this could be another purple patch (which is likely) but United fans have compared him to Lampard
First I’d like to start with the Ole 3-0 argument. Many United fans have used this argument saying that it makes him the better manager. Although there are certain situations where this could be true it doesn’t make sense atm.
First off, Ole gunna Solskjaer also beat Pep Guardiola 3 times, 2 times being at the ethiad. Pep Guardiola is regarded as one of the best managers in history, so by that logic Ole>Guardiola? Not to mention that out of the 15 times they have faced, Sir Alex Ferguson has only
beaten Jose Mourinho on 2 occasions. Does that mean Mourinho>Sir Alex Ferguson? I’m not saying it’s true or not but by that logic then, Sir Alex isn’t the greatest manager of all time, as I’m pretty sure most United fans claim.
It gets worse when you bring each of the matches Lampard and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have faced each other. Lets start off with the first match which was a 4-0 thrashing at Old Trafford. Chelsea started off way better than Manchester United despite having no transfers that season.
and an injury plague with the likes of Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Antonio Rudiger, N’Golo Kante plagued with injuries. Not too mention Ole Gunnar Solskjaer himself said Manchester United were extremely lucky not to be down by the first half as Chelsea hit the woodwork
twice before United scored. Either way I’m not gonna get much into it because credit where credit is due, a 4-0 score line doesn’t simply reflect on individual mistakes.
The second match was a carabao cup game that Manchester United beat Chelsea 2-1 away from home. If u look at the lineups chelsea only had 3 starters (who were starters at the time) whilst Manchester United had 7 starters (who were starters at the time)
Not too mention the back 3, they were basically playing the same players from the Liverpool game earlier that weekend in a tin pot competition. Chelsea despite this disadvantage, still played better with more shots on and off target, etc.
It was undeserved but they played worse than Chelsea’s second team in a tin pot competition, and they’re using that as a bragging right? A bit embarrassing from the supposed “biggest club in England”
Next, we have the most recent matchup between the two which was Chelsea 0-2 Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. This match I don’t even feel like going back to as everyone knows the horrid refereeing that happened in this match
First as we look at the line ups, you will see that Chelsea had an injury plague, and had to play a disgusting front 3. Even if you combine all the goals theyve scored this season, id still be able to fit them on my two hands.
Chelsea started off the game on the front foot and it’s basically the same story from the first game, as Michy Batshuayi was having an absolute nightmare and missed 3 sitters that he couldn’t even get on target. The same story follows as we can’t finish off our chances
The ball is about to go out of play with Michy and Maguire chasing it and Maguire ends of falling by the sideline. Michy is able to slow himself down, but Maguire sticks his leg out intentionally for it to land right on Michy’s groin.
Bearing in mind all of this is with the ball out of play. This situation is way worse than the Son red card away at Spurs and it was a no brainer he should’ve been sent off for violent conduct.
Whats funny about the incident at Spurs and the incident with United, was that it was THE SAME REFEREE and made different decisions despite Maguire’s kick being worse. The referee reviews it and doesn’t even apply a yellow for that awful “challenge.”
Maguire spoke about it after trying to defend himself which got memed by rival fans and made Chelsea fans even more heated
The first half ends with United winning 1-0 at the break, but Chelsea very in it. Chelsea come out and Andreas Christensenn is replaced by Kurt Zouma following a nose injury which could’ve played part in the first goal. But what happens next is bizarre
Chelsea come out the break and within 3 minutes equalize with a goal from Kurt Zouma following a corner. As per usual, VAR reviews it but no one expected what happened next. VAR decide to rule it out following a push on Brandon Williams from Azpilicueta
But what made Chelsea really heated was that the push on Williams from Azpi, was caused by Fred pushing Azpi as he was about to jump, resulting in him pushing Williams causing a bit of a domino effect.
Obviously if it was Azpi who just pushed Williams alone then it would’ve been ruled out correctly, but it was Fred who caused the whole thing to happen and it wasn’t azpi’s fault, meaning the goal should’ve been allowed.
But what happens next is shocking. Following a corner, Harry Maguire goes on to score for United. You may be wondering: “How is this the refereeing’s fault or how is this a robbery?”
If you go up the thread, you will see that he shouldn’t even had been on the pitch with his horrid challenge, and therefore shouldn’t had even scored. More outrage was caused and some fans started leaving Stamford Bridge. Giroud replaces Michy and his goal is ruled out rightly
In the end you may be wondering: “It’s 1 game, how is it important in the top 4 race?” If Chelsea had won, which they would’ve if the refereeing decisions were correct, the distance from 4th to 5th would’ve been 9 points and could’ve easily made the top 4 race a lot more easier
But because of this United go 3 points off Chelsea. This is what brings me on to my next point on why Frank is a better manager.
Despite all of this that happened in the third match, Lampard still is ahead of Ole without spending a single pound. The amount of advantages Ole has over lampard is genuinely immense, and Lampard is still ahead of him.
While Ole has spent over ÂŁ200,000,000 at Manchester United, yet is in the Europa League, had one of the worse starts to a Manchester United season in their Premier League history, and is not even in the top 4, playing poor football atm.
Whereas Frank Lampard lost a player who was responsible for 50 PERCENT OF OUR GOALS. People genuinely forget how much of a massive difference that makes. And the worse part is that he couldn’t even replace him due to the ban.
Yet Chelsea are still top 4, advanced in the champions league despite losing to Bayern 3-0 with 9 first teamers out, have created the second most amount of chances in the Premier League, have conceded the second least amount of shots in the Premier League-
and are currently in top 4 since September, whereas United haven’t been on top 4 since the first few days of the season.
He’s brought forth so many youngsters and is currently bringing the best out in most of them like Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and the most recent talent in the spotlight: Billy Gilmour.
It’s obvious that it hasn’t been a perfect season for Chelsea, but if Lampard gets the signings he needs to finally finish off our chances, we can well and truly finish 3rd or even higher next season
