When Biden said, “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump then you ain’t black,” @cthagod was on point in his reply. “It don't have nothing to do with Trump." Some Black voters are other swing voters, figuring out whether they're w/ Biden or not voting.
Apparently, Biden has yet to realize that for nearly all Black voters, Trump is not an option. Biden is not running against Trump. He’s running against himself. He’s running against his past. He running against the audacity of a White man to tell Black people who ain’t Black.
I think all Black people should vote, just as I think all politicians seeking the Black vote should be making voting easier and persuading Black people why they should vote for them; and not scaring or shaming them into voting. That did not work in 2016. It will not work in 2020.
Just like if Biden fails to persuade enough older White swing voters to vote for him over Trump, then it will be his fault; so too if Biden fails to enable and persuade enough young Black swing voters to vote, then that will be his fault too. He needs both swing voters to win.
Stop lecturing about the importance of voting and how not voting is voting for Trump. For decades, those lectures have been heard by other swing voters who swing between voting Dem and not voting, by people who never vote. Lectures have failed. What's the definition of insanity?
Respect them. Discuss policy with them. We're not going to win them over to voting for Biden if we start from a place of disrespecting them, of scaring them, of blaming them for Trump. White Obama voters who swung to Trump were as critical to his win as Blacks who didn’t vote.
