I had a feeling this was going to happen after the recent news re: lying about her education history. This really sucks. It's why I wanted people to be very careful with how they discuss the case. Regardless of how this ends, the feelings of betrayal from allies remains. https://twitter.com/scottwongDC/status/1263854296895897600
At least now we know who used #metoo
as a personal career boost and actually didn't care or understand what their activism really meant. Masks came off and I'm thankful for that at least.

This is our chance to take back #metoo
from being dragged down by hyperfocus on individual abusers of wealthy white women.
Let's get to the grassroots again. Show that sexual violence is about structural oppression. Just "speaking out" & media coverage isn't enough.

This has all been devastating. But there is opportunity here. I have spoken to many survivors who felt invisible as most people focused on a very privileged few.
Since they jumped the boat, let's steer #metoo
back in the right direction.

I think directing anger at the people who broke the story is unproductive and misplaced.
1. This is the nature of our media landscape now. And maybe it always has been. There are independent influential people with large platforms. That will never change.

2. We should consider what changes we need to handle similar cases moving forward. Because it will happen again...and again...
Leaving the media to litigate is unfair. There is a mountain of evidence that they arent impartial and have few incentives to be nuanced & compassionate

3. We will never 100% know what happened. And we need to be able to sit with that and still fight for a fairer process with standardized procedures to handle future similar reports. The truth is we *do* have abusers in govt. Don't we deserve to know who they are?
4. Ultimately this was a test to see if people could maintain their ethics even in spite of a really difficult case before them. Shame to see so many failed.
