Before getting too excited about remote work, what do you think are some of the systemic implications that a mass shift to remote work could inflict? Here are few I could think of:
1. We can expect a sizeable migration to more affordable cities like Montreal, that would result in gentrification of these cities & heavily tax their already inefficient infrastructure. Expect Montreal to become less affordable and therefore less interesting. e.g. Austin, TX
2. More automated and therefore more frustrating job application processes: Since more people will be applying for remote positions, there will be more competition, and worst, higher use of application tracking systems.
3. Expect a decline in mental health (co-working spaces can help). When home turns into the office, transforming it everyday into a place of refuge will become challenging. Also, consider all the physical activity that people are no longer getting. https://twitter.com/jupitersaidwhat/status/1263606448828944385?s=20
