I think it’s racist (and essentialist) to tie someone’s racial or cultural identity to their politics in any case. I disagree with Black Republicans and think they vote against our broadly shared racial interests, but they’re Black.

Black folks love to say “we’re not a monolith” and then in the same breath castigate as “not Black” anyone who strays from the majority.

I think we’re smart enough to criticize the politics of those we disagree with without challenging their racial bonafides.
Also, part of what’s happening here is an assumption that our “broadly shared racial interests” are every Black person’s voting priority. But polls show issues like edu & healthcare often top “racial” issues like police violence. (Of course, everything has a racial component).
Also, as Chris Rock pointed out in a sketch, this goes for affluent Black folks too. Their interests align with Republican interests plenty.
