I find it quite amusing how [upper caste] Sikhs and Hindus have come together in their opposition to #PaatalLok - perhaps it should tell us something about the reality of caste power dynamics in Punjab? Sikhs in the diaspora seem particularly blind to this.

Indeed, much of it is heavy-handed (similar to Udta Punjab), and Indians from outside Punjab are deluding themselves if they think this is a Punjab-exclusive phenomenon - if anything, Punjab is one of the *relatively* better states for Dalits.

But I’ve seen western born-and-raised #ProudJatt Sikhs use choora and chamar regularly as slurs; which should tell us how the assessment of Dalit-Jat relations in #PaatalLok isn’t false (even if it is a bit exaggerated)
