Is anyone else noticing that this time is reawakening them to the smallest joys? Those moments that we usually overlook in our fast-paced lives seem magnified, now that we’ve slowed down to this almost uncomfortably deliberate speed of life.
A breeze on your cheek or the sun warming your skin…the contentment of watching light glint off the lake. Those little moments of beauty – the slow seconds, as the poet Laura Morefield called them – can take your breath away, but just for a moment, and only if you’re noticing.
My friend Jake Heggie wrote an incredibly moving song cycle, The Work at Hand, setting Laura’s poetry. It’s one of the works (all by and about exceptional women!) that form our upcoming album Unexpected Shadows, to be released on September 18.
We’re sharing #TheWorkatHand today, including the video of “The Slow Seconds" at the top of this thread. You can hear the whole cycle, featuring the heart-melting cellist @MattHaimovitz, at http://verismo.news/thework .
And you can pre-order the album at http://verismo.news/shadows . I hope you find some small joys tucked inside.
