Does that necessarily mean that we all agree and are all the same? NO. it is about consensus of FORWARD MOVEMENT. Look at the GOP for example. they understand power. every single one of them from evangelical racists to godless billionaires moving in lockstep. A MONOLITH

you don't get the power to advance your ideas with factions that are singularly, myopically focused. (this is how the s failed) you form coalitions put the strongest (hopefully competent) figure head you got at the front and push them though.

This is where the left and the right differ. The Left is always looking for a "Leader" some one to navigate the ship though the water. The Right understands that the person they put up is but the tip of a spear. The POWER comes from behind it
