Just thinking bout Kusanagi’s body this morning.

I really identified with her broad shoulders, round muscles, solid build. She’s a genderqueer icon for me but also an example of the diversity of body shapes we rarely get to see for women in animation.

Women trend childlike.
Compare to the newer versions of her from this year. Slim, no muscles, no angles.
It’s also a drift away from the idea of cyborgs needing muscles. Cyborg is no longer the terminator horror of the 80s, and is more, I dunno, slick plastic sad boy? I feel like the cyborgs of today are and echo of their older selves, like they lack a deeper sense of meaning.
There are few cyborgs in media anymore! Most are androids or AI, the new perceived technological threat metaphor. Completely constructed without any human parts. I guess were not really afraid of merging with technology anymore, but technology all on its own.
Lol I often forget I wrote a short game four years ago called Strict Machine where you play tachikoma and the gm is the major and you all compete for her attention so she’ll take you out on a mission. Kind of like Kagematsu light. I should rewrite this https://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=20784
I should also add non-binary representation rarely if ever gets this body type either. Slim androgynous feminine everywhere
