An informative discussion between @renadmansour & former Prime Minister @HaiderAlAbadi. Some interesting remarks by Abadi I took note of.

When asked how new Prime Minister @MAKadhimi can ensure reforms happen without having a political party to back him, Abadi responded: https://twitter.com/ch_menap/status/1263787259972800518
“Well to be honest with you, it could be a good thing if he doesn’t have a political bloc because sometimes a political party can move against you if you’re not careful.”

It is obvious that Abadi is reflecting on his own time in office & challenges he faced from his own party.
With regards to economy & receiving help from the other countries Abadi states that all help is welcome but Iraq needs to fix this itself:

“Not a single country in the world can save us, we have to do it ourselves. But every relationship will count & can have a contribution.”
He then takes a clear jab at his predecessor @AdilAbdAlMahdi:

“We have to bring back that confidence, it’s not easy. All of that may have been lost after 2018. We have to bring back that confidence. It’s not easy to build and results are not immediate. But they will be seen.“
“I sympathize with the PM, when he was designated to form a gov. I told him I don’t know what to say. I cannot congratulate you. This is very tough. In the first day or the first month or first week when you take over you’ll see a challenge which is not of your own making.”
“But a challenge which is on your shoulder. There’s no quick fix to it but you have to act. I’m hopeful that we can be successful at the end of the day.”

Abadi’s message of hope & determination is reminiscent of his own experience of taking on the premiership in difficult times.
