Correct, we don't have "gating criteria"—our core concept is that the conventional gating criteria falsely assume that everyone is at equal risk of morbidity & mortality from #COVID19. The evidence is overwhelming—especially now—that morbidity & mortality is highly concentrated. https://twitter.com/Farzad_MD/status/1263818678690369536
To wit: 40% of all U.S. deaths have taken place in nursing homes or assisted living facilities (50% outside of NY state). 1.6% of the U.S. population lives in such facilities.
Children are at extremely low risk for morbidity & mortality from #COVID19, and there is accumulating evidence that they are not meaningful vectors for transmission. If we didn't shut down the schools for H1N1 in 2009, which actually did kill kids, why are we doing so now?
And all this is before you even start discussing the wide regional variation in pandemic severity, especially between NYC-DC megalopolis and the rest of the U.S; the experience of Florida, which has taken a @FREOPP-aligned approach; etc.
One point I should emphasize: the economic costs of complete lockdown are catastrophic, especially for economically vulnerable populations. 40% of Americans making less than $40,000 a year are now unemployed. Hourly wage-earner employment down 50-60%.
