some people are gonna laugh at me when I get choked up talking about John Ritter on @TVGuidance podcast and I simply do not care.
I am seriously thinking about doing a podcast about John Ritter's film career. Could do it in a six or eight episodes. He's been in more movies than you may remember, but he was mostly a TV star.
So this John Ritter podcast mini-series idea. I ran it past two people and they're both down to participate. One is @KennethWReid, a TV genius/podcaster, and the other is @JasonRitter. So it's happening. This makes me happy. (will be on my patreon)
By the way, if anyone out there happens to have worked with John Ritter and you want to share an anecdote, please do. I'll read some on the show!
if you had told me when I was 12 that one day I'd be working on a project to honor John Ritter, with his son, I would have cried again.
What movie (not TV show) do you think of when someone mentions John Ritter?

There is no wrong answer. for me it's freaking Hero at Large.
i definitely hope to get @Karaszewski on at least one episode. I'm sure he has some great John Ritter stories.
(he wrote the Problem Child movies.)

I could also possibly get Peter Hyams! (he directed Stay Tuned)
building the spreadsheet for this project, and it has lots of movies I'm looking forward to seeing or re-seeing.

except for North. this one I am dreading. forgot John Ritter was even in this
you can learn a lot by just going chronologically. John Ritter didn't make any feature films between They All Laughed (81) and Real Men (87) bcz he was a huge TV star.

and yeah I'm pretty sure we'll include all his TV movies too. only seems right.
gonna dig into the back-story on this movie. It definitely seems to have a small cult following, which is awesome, but I'm 80% sure it never opened theatrically in Philly. cuz I woulda seen it. instead I saw it on VHS and have since forgotten all of it.
this will probably be my first John Ritter revisit, as in tonight. cuz I know it's funny and I haven't seen it in 20+ years
this movie is great, and no I haven't seen the stage play. if you like Clue, give Noises Off a rental. has the same ensemble energy only there's no murrrrderrrs. cc @amblin
Julie Hagerty has probably the fewest lines in this entire ensemble yet she gets the single biggest laugh in the movie. She's a national treasure and I love her.
Research can be fun. Here's info on a 1978 TV special called Ringo that John Ritter was in. wow.
OK, spreadsheet done. Feature films and TV/cable/DTV films. Grand total is 70. That doesn't include hour-long TV specials or TV series in which John Ritter starred or guested. Although I'll try to throw those in there since I aim to do the episodes chronologically.
A good percentage of those 70 films represent early-career bit parts, quick cameos, and voice work in kid's movies. We'll be focusing mainly on the movies in which John Ritter was the star or a featured member of an ensemble. But all will be mentioned!
yes I'm even gonna watch stuff like this.
John Ritter's career ran about 35 years. (He passed away in 2003, at the age of 54.) So maybe if we break the series down by five-year segments, with some spillover, etc. that could be eight really good episodes. Or knowing me, more like ten. I like to talk.
currently watching a 1988 TV movie in which John Ritter plays a cheating husband who gets killed in the first 10 minutes, and then his widow (Cindy Williams) and the prostitute (Markie Post) team up in some regard
the @TVGuidance episode that inspired the creation of The John Ritter Project is now live. hope it's fun. h/t @KennethWReid & @jasonritter https://twitter.com/scottEweinberg/status/1264924029108002816
more trivia I discovered, unless it's untrue, in which case ignore it. remember this Three's Company intro? that kid in the stylish overalls is @jasonritter.
for those who thought I was gonna forget about this project. this is the John Ritter movie I'm on now.
Here's a 19yo John Ritter on The Dating Game. (I'm searching youtube for the man's more obscure TV movies.)
spoiler: she picked John and they won a trip to ... Lake Havasu. 1967 was a weird year.
