Excavations found an oak wine barrel with the name "Januarius" carved into one of the staves

Quintus Lollius Urbicus led the Antonine invasion in AD 142. He was born in Tiddis in what is now Algeria.

Septimius Severus, Emperor from 192-211 AD was born in Leptis Magna in what is now Libya

Rome wasn't built in an afternoon, but a 53-hectare marching camp at Black Hill near Braco was!

It was put up quickly to protect the invading army 30,000-men strong led by Emperor Septimius Severus.

The camp was large enough to contain 72 football pitches.

Analysis of deposits of sewage from the latrines revealed a mostly vegetarian menu with imported figs, coriander & olive oil as well as local staples like spelt & barley
