There is no redemption without

1. Remorse
2. Changed behavior
3. Direct action to make amends and RESTITUTION for what you've done in some way

Go go Gadget friendship is not redemption. It might but the start, but that's it. Most arcs never reach completion, thus don't count.
I think this is why so many arcs fall short or are unfulfilling. Lots of writers/storytellers will get to the start of a redemption arc, but we hardly ever see the complete follow through. That's because, for whatever reason, most people save the redeeming for the very end.
The arc is set up to either take place during the climax of the overall story or help facilitate it somehow.

IE Vadar yeets Palpatine.

Yeah, it's a cool moment, and it's the start of Anakin coming back around, but that doesn't actually happen because ole boy dies.
I think a lot of people use the Vadar example to build their redemption arcs, or some variation of it, and thus we never get to the changed behavior and direct action for restitution bit.

Yes, it's great that he resisted the dark side long enough to do one thing that helped the
good guys win, but without the follow through that I mentioned, it remains a jumping off point.

COULD Anakin have gone on to be a better person, pay his debt, make amends for what he did, and devote time and resources to rebuilding what he helped destroy? Mm. Maybe. I mean,
it's a strong possibility. It's also a possibility that he could've hidden somewhere feeling guilty for the rest of his life without actually DOING anything about it.

Or maybe he's just on good terms with the core team and everyone is expected to like him now because they do.
Buuuuuuut we never get that, and what MIGHT happen or COULD happen does 👏🏻 not 👏🏻 count 👏🏻.

You need to devote time to the completion of the arc. Zuko made his decision to do better at the end of season two. That's where most writers would have called it a day. That's where most
writers DO call it a day. But we got more with Zuko.

Season three is devoted to the completion of that arc. 21 episodes. An ENTIRE THIRD of the overall story. Part of said third dealt with the people he hurt SLOWLY coming around to him as he worked on himself and making amends
for what he'd done. You can't just skip that part either. Yes, it's a lot of work and it stretches the story out and you gotta make sure it's just as good as the rest of it.

But if you wanna do redemption and do it right, you gotta COMMIT.
