Denying people LARC removal is horrendous, and is a glaring example of the pivot of control between patients & providers. If it were the pill/patch/ring/depo they could choose to stop themselves. But somehow bc of ?cost/time/reproductive power? some providers pressure their power https://twitter.com/amyaddante/status/1263630721589088258
Akin to “I won’t give you birth control unless we do your pap/annual” are now the common LARC phrases “your period will get better over time” or “it’s expensive let’s give it a few more months.” Consent incl risks & benefits must occur before placement and be respected if revoked
If they want it out, take it out. That’s how consent works. Healthcare providers: spread the f*cking word. How can it be this hard? See also: taking your hand out when consent is revoked during a cervical exam in labor.
See also: stopping stitches if it’s painful and they’re requesting more meds. See also: stopping fundal massage if their hands grab yours. See also: stopping a dry cervidil insertion every micro-centimeter if they ask because it’s dry and it hurts and they deserve your time.
