well... yup, it's been a little over a year, time to talk about @Wizards_DnD, @mikemearls and @IHitItWithMyAxe again...

(and by "again," I mean here's something I wrote last year on the topic, with lots of links to things other people said)

https://crossingtheverse.wpcomstaging.com/2019/02/17/on-something-rotten/
I would write more, if I felt there was anything more to say.

the thing is, not much has changed. WotC tried to sweep Mearls under the rug, Zak slithered off to his corner of the net and the rest of us blocked the trolls (for the most part).

2/
is it really that shocking that WotC lied to us? that Mearls is still working on #DnD products? or that Zak is still... being Zak?

like... look, I love D&D, my blog is dedicated to figuring out how to run a better game and I generally like talking to people about the hobby... 3/
but at the end of the day?

it's a mediocre game, at best.

(/most/ #TTRPGs aren't all that great, either, but there's a lot of reasons for that)

@Wizards_DnD has been in control of #DnD since the late '90s. the game has been around since the late '70s.

4/
during all that time, what improvements or innovation have we seen?

(and in case anyone wants to genuinely talk about this, start by asking yourself, "how is this Thing functionally and practically different from the Things that came before?")

5/
their business model depends on repeat customers; but their focus has been on the adventure and not the world.

... hmmm

maybe there is a post in this...
