Some moths are friends.

Some moths are foe.

organic fabrics
Naughty rascal moths lay their eggs in organic fabrics like cotton, linen and wool.

Then, when they hatch into larvae, they eat the fabric and leave behind their little rascal poops.
It is the strife of dress and textile curators everywhere!
Usually 1 moth is a warning that there are potentially LOTS OF MOTHS hot on its t̵a̵i̵l̵ wings!

That’s why we have to store our lovely dress and textiles collection at relative humidity and happy temperatures, to try and make it as uncomfortable as possible for the rascals.
The only way to REALLY treat these infestations is to freeze clothes when they come in and out of our artefact store.

Because although you might get rid of the moth & the larvae, there may still be eggs on the textile that are hidden away.

Under a hem!

Nestled in a crease!
This suit in our collection was probably used for hunting, shooting, horse riding and moth feeding in around 1770.

Can you see the hole? Can you see that PESKY hole everyone
