I’m all for allyship; I’m just pointing out that there is a type of solidarity offered to African Americans/Black folk, by other people’s engaged in their own climb up the social ladder that actually makes us more vulnerable & indefinitely delays our deliverance.
We’re arm in arm down the road, but as we approach the door, the road narrows and we think we’re forced to walk single-file. & getting to the front of the line is all that maters b/c who wants to risk not making it into the room? There’s no way there’s room for all of us, right?
It doesn’t occur to those willing to walk with us that we build a bigger road— or that we demand a wider door. You’re allowed in because you came with a crowd of Black folk and you selfishly accept your individual invitation inside, assuring us “you’ll be right back.”🤦🏾‍♂️
This plays out again and again. It doesn’t have to though, not if we build wider roads and demand wider doors. We all make it in or none of us do. That’s #solidarity.
