Good morning comrades! Today we are looking at the issues facing Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) students and staff.
Casualisation, both at the University of Edinburgh and beyond, disproportionately affects BAME staff.

For academic staff, non-UK nationality BAME staff are most likely to be employed on a fixed-term contract and White UK staff the least likely, a pattern has not changed significantly over the last six years.
For professional services staff, non-UK BAME staff overall are more likely to be on a fixed-term contract than their UK counterparts over the last six years, with BAME staff being more likely to be on fixed-term contracts than their white counterparts for both UK and non-UK staff
Here are some not good and not cute graphics
On top of the ongoing precarity that this represents for BAME staff, it also shows that they are more likely to be vulnerable to cuts carried out under COVID-19.
As we noted yesterday, the institutional and systemic effects of the hostile environment are significantly aggravated for BAME staff and students https://twitter.com/PanPrecariat/status/1263437478737989633

The systemic and institutional racism faced by BAME staff goes beyond the university and makes them more vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19.

The race pay gap at @EdinburghUni is 27%. There are no concrete material plans to address this.
This does and will continue to have an effect on BAME staff at Edinburgh.
Please joing @ucuedinburgh and get involved in the BAME working group
