It’s an amazing history that my family is immensely proud of. Our ancestors were some of the very first settlers in North Dakota in the 1800s when it was a territory. Among other things, they were founders of McClusky, ND. My great great grandparents are buried in Grand Forks.
I once asked my grandmother what it was like growing up on the North Dakota frontier. She replied “cold.” Her little brother was my favorite uncle. He’s the one who figured a North Dakota boy could kill himself some Nazis and got 17 starting that terrible morning on Omaha Beach.
Members of my family have lived all over America with - I’m proud to say - the notable exception of New York. As far as we can tell, no member of our family who came to these shores ever stayed in NYC longer than it took to get headed west.
