Hi everyone, hope y'all staying safe and healthy. So I have a little tip to share as regards applying for a job. I'm terrible at writing threads so bare with me.
I'm doing this cos I know what it feels like to job hunt and I wish I can help everyone. But at the end of the day,
Only one man wins. I currently am reviewing CVs and my heart breaks. People need jobs, but people are also not doing it right. One reason you keep applying for months or years even is your CV. So straight to the point
1. Know that 100s, 1000s are applying for that same position. But only one or two slots are open. Young, old, HND, bsc, MSc, undergraduate are all applying.
2. Please and please, write a cover letter. I didn't say send the document, I said "write it" in the body of the mail.
I see some just post their CV. Some write "find attached"... Ehmm, hello? Find what attached? No greetings, intro, nothing 🤦. Well moving on... Write a cover letter. Make it very brief but straight to the point without omitting your name, little introduction,
And skills (regarding the position applied for). You can't be a lab scientist and applying for video editor for example. Also never write long cover letters. They will skip you. The applications are too much so don't waste people's time. Straight to the point please
3. The CV itself. If you see CV, you'll fear fear. Guys please, there are good templates online. Google, research, do it yourself before asking someone to help review. Some people just forward a CV done by another and didn't bother editing it off 🤦. I'm not saying it's wrong to
Pay someone to do your CV, but please cross check. Some CVs are so disorganized that your eyes starts turning when going through it. Limit the use of faint colours please. Biko, ejor, no one will strain eyes to read faint prints.
Lastly, pray. Yes I said pray. If you believe o cos you people can be funny. In a case where you're over a thousand applying for a single role, you were picked and you think it's because your CV was the flyest or the baddest? No my dear. Some CVs were so delightful to read but
They didn't get past cos you don't have the skill. Some with MSc didn't get through cos they lacked the skill. Someone with HND got through cos they had the skill. So pray o. No be by grade or best cover letter and CV. Yes those get you noticed but most times that's it. Notice!
People need jobs. Recruiters are tired and as such will skip you when you don't even have a good cover letter. First thing to get your CV opened is a good cover letter cos your CV and skills are a waste if the cover letter isn't catchy. May God help us all ❤️❤️
