I was in the bank today, when a poor old woman asked me to read her passbook entries and tell her the balance. She said she got the passbook updated yesterday and withdrew 500 rupees. I checked her passbook and her passbook was last updated on 11th May which was not yesterday.
I told her the balance then she went to a bank employee and asked the employee to update it and cash 5000 rupees for her. The bank employee suddenly got angry and started shouting at her saying “apko jab humse hi balance puchna rehta hai toh passbook me entry karke kya karogi”
The employee yelled at the top of her voice and two more employees sitting besides this one joined in agreement. I lost my cool. I stood up and asked the employee why did she shout at her and why is updating passbook and telling her the balance such a big deal
They started raising their voices even more because that’s what you do when you don’t have logic to explain your point. Then I raised my voice and told them to shut the fuck up and do it as many times as the old woman wants because that’s what service providers do for customers
I was shaking in anger at this point since the employees weren’t ready to budge, they kept humiliating the woman and tried doing that with me but I stormed into the manager’s cabin and told him how apathetic and manner less his employees are
He called that particular employee in his cabin, she was yelling in their too, in front of her boss because according to her she had explained that to the old woman earlier but she didn’t understand, so? Couldn’t she tell her one more time? How was humiliating her a solution?
These same bank employees keep calling my father to explain him various policies and services which he also takes time to understand and ekds up saying no to 90% of them. They call me to sell their services more than 20 times a day. What is this discrimination?
I understand you cannot give the same time to each and every customer but you can give the same empathy and respect to everyone, it’s not a big thing, it should come naturally to us. It’s a tough time, everyone is going through shit, be kind.
I told the manager to check the entitlement in his employees, he said the work his hectic, yes it is, I understand but that doesn’t give you the right to be selectively cruel. Would they treat me the same way? No chance in hell. Then why such apathy with that old woman.
Check your privilege guys, and stand up for those who cannot for themselves.
