Dugsi is sold as Islamic teaching institution but the reality is that it is an institution to break little spirits!! A place of crazy levels of violence that is geared primarily towards instilling fear and obedience in children!!! Parents send them there to be 'trained'. #Somalia
What msg are we sending to children when teaching the Quran is done in such a violent way?!! How do we expect them to trust and truly believe in this religion if the teaching is done so inhumanely, leaving children traumatised?!! Violence starts so early, at home and in dugsi!!
Guidance on how to read this thread:

1) We are discussing method, not content of dugsi teachings.

2) Using violence to teach or reinforce 'discipline' is conditioning children to associate the Quran with violence/pain.
When children are taught violence from such young age, their spirits are broken through relentless verbal and physical abuse from parents and guardian...They are forced to numb their pain. In the process, they also numb their humanity!! Don't get shocked by suicide bombers...
Vast majority of Somalis went through this extreme pain endurance conditioning!! "Adkeyso" is very common 'advice'. We have developed frightening levels of endurance for emotional, mental, and physical pain!! To the point where we living in bombs and extreme violence as 'normal'!
Product of this system is now at the top of government, tasked with finding solutions to a problem they neither understand nor mentally prepared to handle!! It is very hard to self-diagnose but even harder to be shackled by a culture that shames diagnosis or even seeking help!!!
Authoritarianism is the result of violent dugsi culture. Authoritarianism and intolerance are instilled through this culture and way of life. Children learn to obey without understanding or liking. They are discouraged from, and even punished for reasoning/critical thinking!!
Dictators are made...In Dugsi!! Culture that normalises cruelty and violence, especially towards children and vulnerable members, is a culture that ensures it never sees peace and prosperity. It is a culture that locks its people in a vicious cycle of hate, violence, and poverty.
