BREAKING: Independent SAGE committee of scientists says that June 1st is TOO SOON for schools to re-open safely,
The 'Independent Sage' committee chaired by former chief scientific adviser Sir David King, has carried out modelling which shows the risk to children is halved if ministers delay their planned school opening date by two weeks.
That gives more time for a track and trace operation to be set up. Paul Whiteman @nahtnews: 'Support for a fixed date for school return is vanishing. What is needed is local flexibility to open up to more pupils, informed by evidence of what is happening in their own local area'.
