After a bit of brainstorming, it seems like the lack of understanding when it comes to skin health comes down to pharmacokinetics essentially.
The majority of the products most use influence not only the SKIN microbiome, but likely the gut as well through active diffusion via antibacterial, antimicrobial, etc. properties.
Now that we've established these ingredients absorb through skin membrane, they are then carried through the bloodstream into the liver to be metabolized. This is where hormonal biowaste accumulation comes in!
Many of these products (even the "natural" ones!) influence your liver detox pathways via accumulation/occupation or direct inhibition.

Your liver is required to detox the estrogenic metabolite wastes.
Now for the kicker... Estrogen dominance negatively influences gut microbiome!

Not to mention nutritional deficiencies that go into proper skin/collagen synthesis and repair. Let alone high inflammation/oxidative stress inhibiting natural repair processes.
Women especially are most prone to this, even moreso with genetic anomalies in CYP liver pathways.
