Hear me out...sw as a demon locked up by a village...zyl as a guard hired to watch over him

sw as this eldritch kinda creature looking thing all black with black tendrils of gas rising out and all you can see are these awfully bright white eyes and anyways he's chained and in a cell and all of his previous guards have somehow mysteriously died/got injured

And the village finally didn't know what to do with him so they flagged down an outside traveler, a vagabond zyl, who they were like "well no one would miss if he died" to watch him. ZYL shows up and he immediately starts whistling and commenting on sw's looks

He calls him "demon bro" and he's all "wowweeee demon bro your gas tendrils they're so cool can you make them dance haha demon bro wonder what sorts of fun things you can do with those" *waggles eyebrows*
Just no self-preservation and no sense of shame. Not afraid at all.

SW is astounded and taken aback and doesn't do anything to zyl cause he's just so shook. And from that first moment of not doing anything it just...kinda stuck. And so he'd sit there listening as zyl talked about all sorts of things, as zyl poked gentle fun at him

Zyl starts telling sw stories...all sorts of colorful stories about his travels. Sw starts anticipating the moment when zyl would show up to guard him everyday. One day zyl scoots up right up against the cell and sw is once again shocked and he says

"...I could kill you at any time." And zyl laughs and says "yeah but you wouldn't" and then demands for sw to come closer. Sw is baffled but does so and zyl reaches in and presses sw's eldritch face into a smile. "WOWE! Demon bro your skin is so soft!"

"What is your skin routine??"

"......."

"You look even cuter when you smile!"

"..........."

From then on whenever zyl comes they would sit near each other across the bars of the cell and zyl would teach sw all these little games

Then one day zyl is looking at sw's black smoky half solid half gas form or whatever and asks if he can change shapes and sw switches into his human form and zyl is instantly yelling "WOW A BIG BEAUTY" and anyways they break out to live on the mountains and the rest is history
