Ooh boy, okay let's talk about this.

I feel like RFP and nsfw content involving live-action characters (since they're played by real life people) is a whole different ball game from content involving animated characters, so time for a thread. https://twitter.com/maskemane/status/1263447183770214401
First of all, if the person really did say/do these things... that's no longer fiction. Using *screencaps* of a live-action character is no longer fiction. They may be a fictional character, but they are portrayed by a real life minor and these comments are highly inappropriate.
Now to address the issue of nsfw content of live-action characters...

My stance on rpf has always been "it's a gray area." It's fine as long as you don't try to @ the celebrities or whoever involved, even with sfw stuff, because they may not like being shipped with their-
co-worker/friend. It may be awkward for them. You can rpf all you want, but be mindful of the fact that rpf involves real people with real feelings and be considerate about it and aware of how you approach shipping and creating/consuming this rpf content involving them.
My stance regarding live-action characters *portrayed by adults* is similar.

Yes you are drawing/writing their character. But, when it comes to art particularly, you are also drawing that actor's likeness. Same rules as rpf applies imo.
Don't show live-action actors nsfw art of their own character (aka their likeness), or any thing else like that. Be respectful and considerate of their feelings and realize that it may be awkward for them to see their likeness in nsfw contexts.
When it comes to characters played by underage actors and nsfw content tho... to me that's even less of a grey area, to the point of being in the "yeah no, just don't do it, that's off-limits" realm.

I think nsfw written content is fine tbh. I can excuse it bc it's just words-
but when it gets into nsfw art/drawing content though... that's when it's more of an issue. Because at that point, yes you may be drawing/depicting a fictional character, but you are also depicting the likeness of a real life minor, of the kid actor playing that character.
I know it's just a live-action show/movie and just a live-action character. But these characters are portrayed by real life people. So this is crossing some more lines to the point where it's no longer just fictional and is starting to get into real life territory.
I know there's still some greyness to it too. Harry Potter for example started off as book characters. But later they were portrayed by real life kids (who grew up to be adults in the later movies). So is nsfw of them okay? Because originally they weren't portrayed by real ppl?
This is where YMMV, I guess. I know some artists try, instead, to base the characters in their nsfw art using book descriptions, so they look different from Radcliffe or the other actors. That's a bit better. But not every live-action franchise has other media. Not every series-
has a book or a cartoon or something non-liveaction media that people can base their character portrayals off of for their fanart.

So imo, I still think you shouldn't do it just to be safe. Again written depictions are one thing, but artistic depictions are another.
It may also be crossing into some issues of legality at that point as well, since it's the likeness of a real minor who exists, so that's another element to consider.
Wow I kinda petered off on my train of thought here.

But yeah, what are the options IF your series is strictly live-action and has no original book/cartoon/anime/manga, it's based off of? I think artists should try to add characteristics to their art- https://twitter.com/lizcourserants/status/1263657976004567042
to separate the character from the actor.

Change their race or some facial features like give them a different nose. Keep some characteristics of the character, like hair type or hair color or eye color or clothing, something that can still distinguish the character-
but that separates the character from the actor too, if that makes sense.

For ex, fanart that racebends live-action characters! Even though the character no longer looks like actor portraying them, you can still tell it's the character.
I see fanart of black Hermione often, and these drawings looks nothing like Watson, but I can still tell that it's Hermione because they kept her hair or her uniform, something to distinguish her.

So I think artists should try to do things like that if they want to do nsfw.
Even then, still iffy in my opinion. But I know people still want to portray these live-action characters in nsfw situations, so that's just a kind of middle-ground/alternative, I guess, when it comes to fanart.

Fanfic again, not as big a deal in my opinion, because it's words-
and with fanfic, there's no *visual* representation of these underage actors. It's just written attributes of the characters' descriptions.
Last thing: please don't send any harassment or hate these people's way (the users mentioned in the qrt). Block them if their comments or content make you uncomfortable and move on.
Another last thing, read the full thread because I do think the qrt is a bit poorly-written. I was confused on who said what at first. This also has one of the user's full statement so you can form your own conclusions (click to read, it's multiple tweets) https://twitter.com/ProblematicJust/status/1263470132896161792
I've said my stance on this type of fanart and my thoughts haven't changed, I have nothing else to add
