OK so I’m only two episodes into season 5 of SheRa but I do you want to go ahead & say (potential spoilers?)... Catra doesn’t deserve a redemption arc. Not sure if that will happen but I’m pretty sure it’s what the show is leaning towards.
Catra had so many opportunities to turn around but instead she’s tried to murder all of her friends/ex-friends. Adora straight up invited her to switch sides but her complaint is that she was abandoned. Now suddenly she feels guilty for no developed reason.
It feels like if they try to redeem her it’s going to be totally unjustified no matter what. Yes she has parental figure issues and other mental health issues, but that doesn’t justify trying to murder people. She’s beat the shit out of Adora. She’s just straight up toxic.
The episode 3 flashbacks to Catra’s childhood are too little too late. Maybe if she had more doubts, regret, or any amount of empathetic emotions two seasons ago it could have been worked through. But you can’t just be an abusive bitch to everyone and then suddenly be better.
“Catra is a victim of lifelong abuse by a maternal figure so she...” Hey y’all, me too! But I’ve never beaten my partner bloody or tried to commit genocide. You can’t use your mental health as an excuse for being toxic and abusive.
“But Adora always forgave her and...” Wow, it’s almost like Adora is the victim of lifelong abuse. She’s been convince she can redeem her abuser if she’s “good enough”. You don’t get to be shitty to someone, then say “but I did it bc I love you” and that makes the abuse ok.
