Ok so heres my /proper/ intro thread for 전지적 독자 시점, also known as Omniscient Reader (officially) and Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint (literal)
The original novel is finished and fully available on the webnovel app. The webtoon starts next week on May 27th on webtoon!

the orv novel was published in korea on munipia and is also available (i think?) on ridibooks! it's one of - if not by far the most - popular novels on munipia, especially while it was still in progress! it started in 2017 and finished up February 2020. in addition to the webtoon

-adaptation, which was finalized and announced literally like last week, orv is also on the books for a whole five (5) live action movie deal, which was announced last september! we'll see how that goes!

it's written by SingShong, who at the end was revealed to be a team of two people - two /married/ people. wild.

in terms of genres, it's an apocalypse/modern fantasy with lots of elements of other different genres like martial arts and high fantasy! more on that later

Plot!!
Kim Dokja (right) is 28 and not only has his life sucked so far, things don't seem to be looking at all. The /only/ comfort that he has is his favorite webnovel, which has updated daily for the last 13 years and helped him through the roughest moments of his life.

The novel, Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World, centers on the journey of Yoo Junghyeok, a regressor who's basically trying to save the world. Ways of Survival is long (3145 chapters) and /very/ unpopular. As in, for at least the last decade, barring a couple flukes,

-Dokja has been the /sole/ reader. The only one!!!! (also wos had 3149 chapters, not 3145. oops)

On the subway home from work one day, he realizes that it's ended - and not long afterwards, the whole world goes to shit. Somehow, it's become the world of the novel that he spent

thirteen years of his life reading has become a part of reality. And that means, of course, that (his comfort character) the protagonist Yoo Junghyeok is real now, too. So Dokja does what any sensible guy in his position does and decides to support Junghyeok (nope)

he kinda does! and he kinda doesn't! Dokja has a particular Vision in mind for how he wants the story to end and Yoo Junghyeok is of course a part of that (not least of all because the bastard has the ability to regress, and should that happen everyone gets fucked over)

the only problem in all of this is that Kim Dokja's methods...are a Lot. Be warned, he Will hurt you! In order to minimize the losses to his party, in order to make sure that the people important to Yoo Junghyeok remain alive! Someone has to take their place, and Kim Dokja

not only volunteers, he literally /engineers all his plans/ around that. It happens so much. He is so much. So consider yourself warned I guess???? Kim Dokja dies.

(not permanently, and quite frequently, and sometimes it's not that bad, but sometimes it IS that bad)

Moving onto characters! There will be spoilers! ORV is great bc there's a huge cast of interesting characters, and more than that, at least half of them are crazy interesting, super strong women!!!! The M-F ratio is pretty even, especially in the main party!

Our MC: Kim Dokja
- the reader
- Dokja in Hanja is 獨子, which is basically "only son" or "lone son", but it's also a homonym for 読者, which is "reader"
- he seems like a normal guy at first but no he's not. Dude went through /shit/ long before the world went to shit

- not to give too much away but basically for most of his life he hasn't had any meaningful or deep interpersonal connections. like, zero, zilch, nada.
- smartphone addiction (relatable)
- Has Depression (also relatable)
- Fiction is his Coping Mechanism (also very relatable)

his progression in terms of power going through the story is literally this meme. Literally. in order to kill god and see to the End Kim Dokja attains increasing tiers of divinity

The Protagonist: Yoo Junghyeok
- the (main) character
- a regressor who, by the end of wos, had gone through 1,863 lives trying to reach the end
- before the scenarios he was a champion pro gamer
- his past before the start of wos is vague at best

- the sunfish to dokja's squid
- averse to wearing colors that arent black
- has a much younger sister
- sometimes the weight of having lived multiple versions of one life gets to him, the regression depression (regresso depresso)
- actually younger than Dokja by 6 months

since he has the ability to transfer skills he learned from one regression to the next, the dude starts off super op and just keeps getting more op.
also, his personality sucks but whether thats bc he's a gamer, or bc Trauma, or just bc that's how he is we'll never know.

ALSO NOTE: you'll see his name spelled a lot as "Jonghyuk" bc that's what the previous translator used but. that's not the right way to romanize 중혁 at all so. yeah.

- kid who's on the same train car as dokja when the world goes to shit, and bc of Circumstances becomes one of the only few to survive the initial scenario
- can talk to and control bugs (of All Sizes)
- /very/ attached to dokja, calls him hyung

Lee Hyunsung
- soldier & part of yoo junghyeok's default party in wos
- sike! in this turn dokja snipes him bc same car
- huge like bear, gets even Buffer, but he's Soft inside
- on the same wavelength as the kids
- uses a shield, can turn into steel

Jung Huiwon/Heewon
- was originally just an unnamed extra but dokja picks her up & raises her skills up
- a sleeping dragon, eventually steps up to the role as his sword
- badass with a sword!! badass with a flaming sword!!!
- the only one who refuses to take dokja's bs

Shin Yoosung
- beast girl
- at times was a part of junghyeok's party, at times not
- in this round she's dokja's baby
- rivals with gilyeong, but also works with him
- can control monsters (that aren't bugs)

Lee Sookyoung
- Dokja’s mother
- their relationship is hella complicated but they eventually reconcile
- an ex convict who leads a gang of ex convicts
- she gave up a lot for Dokja and still does, and while not all of her choices are commendable they are understandable

Im more or less done with the incarnations (aka participants of the scenario) so now into constellations! Think FGO servants - the more powerful ones are famous mythological or historical figures, generally, while others were formerly incarnations! they observe the actions of the

incarnations and send coins or items, and they can pick especially interesting ones to personally sponsor! they don’t generally go by their actual names, but rather by a modifier (basically, a username)

finding out who this is will make you Question many things, but it's also hella angst content which I live for

besides the big 4, there's also a bunch of others, ranging from korean historical and mythological figures to major deities from various mythologies! some of them are allies. some of them, kim dokja has majorly pissed off!! he doesnt like them much either

I’m not gonna go into details bc spoilers but the underworld’s monarchs, Father of the Richest Night (Hades) and Queen of the Darkest Spring (Persephone) are badasses and the best couple and also Persephone gave us THIS line so

last but not least, my number 1 reason to try and get others to read orv is seriously because it's just so good. im on my fifth reread right now and there so many details that i missed going through the other four times!!! things that don't quite fit, throwaway comments, etc.

they all turn out to be relevant hundreds of chapters later.

there was so much love and thought put into this novel, and a Whole lot of craziness (orv is a Serious novel that also includes mpreg, squid transformations, feeding others dirt, etc.)

WAIT I SHOULD MENTION A FUN FACT:
- Kim Dokja and Yoo Junghyeok's shipname in korean translate to "addiction" or "poison" if you come across fanart where google translate gives you either then that's jungdok
