Getting tired of NGO-workers, LGBT-activists, environmentalists (the list is endless) confounding in me that they and their organisations want to be more inclusive. But when I apply for jobs at their organisations (with my cum laude law degree, and ten years of work experience
and growing list of raving references), I can’t get past administrative jobs, or giving the occasional keynote/workshop/trainings (that was “so necessary and inspiring, moving and confronting, but yet accessible and informative). your (anti-black) racism is showing and it smells
It is sooo painful, cause y’all confuse us into actually applying, into hoping, into believing this (or that) organisation is truly going to be different. And then you end up hiring some white person who will then reach out to me a few months into their position asking me to come
In to train, to brainstorm, to offer names and leads... mind you, i know I may not have been the “perfect” candidate for any of these jobs. No one is ever a “perfect” candidate. The people hired clearly weren’t, or else they would not be asking me for (free) consulting...
The corporate law world was a cesspool of cis-straight male evil, but after my graduation I was being headhunted aggressively by some of the biggest law firms in the Netherlands. At least they respected my ability and passion. But the NGO world is leaving me feeling worthless
And unworthy. And these are the “leading minds” and organisations of a better, more equitable and fairer world.
I have made a habit of checking who they end up hiring. with one exception, all 6 organisations I have applied for in the last year, ended up hiring white women. two of them, the ngo workers confiding in me were in the selection commission. neither of them resigned in protest.
New rule: if you identify as an intersectional feminist, and you work at an organisation that does not have black womxn in leadership or policy, quit the organization or don’t call yourself an intersectional feminist... same goes for those who identify as “Anti-Racist”
