Let& #39;s talk about why people keep insisting that it& #39;s PoC who are "making it about race" with the Alison Roman and Elizabeth Grant (aka Lana Del Rey) comments and not the white women themselves.
In both cases they signaled that its somehow unfair that the people they mentioned have seen more success than they have. By talking about selling out. By saying they don& #39;t face the same scrutinity. In both cases it& #39;s also a highly hypocritical claim.
Now granted Roman was prompted about Kondo and Teigan but the way she disparaged their success withoit giving the same scrutinity to Goop when prompted about that in the same article speaks volumes.
These are the people at the forefront of their minds in a "why not me" way

Because other ppl on or above their level? Ina Garten, Giada de Laurentis, Rachel Ray, Alanis Morisette, Fiona Apple, heck Billie Eilish. They& #39;re seen as aspirational.
Any of them COULD have been substituted and nothing in the statements would have changed.
But they weren& #39;t.

But they weren& #39;t.
And THATS why it& #39;s about race.
No I don& #39;t think either of them realized that& #39;s what they were doing.
But how is that an excuse? Especially if the response to the criticisms shows no understanding of why they& #39;re being criticized?

The point of these conversations is to show that bias both to the people who made the comments and to the people reading them.
Bc this sort of racism is easy to overlook until you know how to recognize it. And part of "doing the work" is recognizing when your bias is showing

Brown, black and indigenous people? Were used to this. We& #39;ve experienced it first hand when we& #39;re held to higher standards than our white counterparts in pretty much any field.
It is NOT all in our heads and we aren& #39;t MAKING it about race.
We& #39;re just making you aware of it.

An excellent thread but this point about awareness is so important bc people think "but they didn& #39;t know" somehow cancels out the impact? That& #39;s not how it works and the creators have shown growth over the years since but they can& #39;t change who they are https://twitter.com/fangirlJeanne/status/1263854896329011200?s=19">https://twitter.com/fangirlJe...
