Quite astonishing that the @nytimes actually published an opinion piece about how the pandemic has driven our need to stop eating meat. It has been reported that GHG emissions have gone down as much as 17% in the last two months. What didn’t stop? animal agriculture.
Two most absurd lines from the article that I will not link to:
-“We cannot protect against pandemics while continuing to eat meat regularly” where is the scientific basis behind this claim?
-“These are not my or anyone’s opinions” yet this is in the OPINION section for a reason
We watched grocery store shelves empty of animal proteins. We watched disruptions in the supply chain occur. When will we learn that inciting fear among consumers does not accomplish the goals of feeding a planet more sustainably? Where is scientific reporting in all of this?
In my opinion, if there is one takeaway we need to recognize from the pandemic, it is that fear mongering on behalf of the media does not get us any closer to real, factual, and informative answers and tangible solutions that have positive impact.
