Dear white cis men of tech: have you ever had a nontechnical interview turn into a surprise technical one? And then your lack of prep used against you?

This has happened to several of my friends (including me) and it sure seems like there's a theme.

This tweet was inspired by a friend who sat down for an intro chat that turned into a technical grilling session, but I've seen many iterations.

For myself, I've had multiple interviewers decide to "try out" problems on me, which I later learn are not part of the standard process.

So I get tested on a challenge that no engineer working at the company had to do.
