As we move forward, I'm looking at 5 things to help me decide if I should do a thing or not:
1. Time
2. Activity
3. Location
4. Population
5. Necessity
So, sitting/standing (singing!) for an hr--indoors--with a lot of senior citizens makes church a no for me for now.
1. Time: the CDC is using 15 minutes of close exposure as a benchmark. So I'm avoiding activities that put me closer than 6 feet to someone outside of my household for longer than 15 minutes.
2. Activity: does this activity increase the spread the virus? Are we expelling air on each other? Can we wear masks while doing it? I do HIIT & yoga. Early research shows that HIIT, in particular, easily spreads the virus. Ordering take out, not so much. https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/18/health/fitness-classes-coronavirus-korea-wellness/index.html
3. Location--are we indoors or outdoors? Can we move apart and maintain 6 feet of distance? One thing I'm anxiously awaiting is more info on how ventilation impacts spread. ASHRAE is concerned about the possibility of aerosol transmission of COVID19 https://www.ashrae.org/about/news/2020/ashrae-issues-statements-on-relationship-between-covid-19-and-hvac-in-buildings
4. Population--how many people will be there? Who's likely to be there? How likely is it that they're wearing masks?

I start with the assumption that I'm infected and asymptomatic. We all should. So being mindful of *who* you could possible infect is always good.
5. Necessity: This is differs for everyone! It's important to think through want vs. need. I WANT to have a glass of wine on a restaurant patio, but I don't NEED to have a glass of wine on a restaurant patio. I DO need to buy my groceries, etc.
This is the system I'm using. It's meant my life is largely the same as it was during our stay at home order bc the fundamentals of the virus have not changed: we don't have a vaccine. Healthcare providers are not an endless resource. There is no coordinated national strategy.
I'm hearing a LOT of fear from folks that taking basic public health safety measures or not are becoming partisan decisions. We must do everything we can to normalize mask wearing, maintain social distancing, model grace and empathy with each other. It only works if we all do it.
