Dear Young People.

Here are a few ways to prevent pregnancy.

1. Condoms- Yes, this one is everywhere. From the mallam down the street to the chemist shop down the road. There are condoms everywhere. If you are in Uni or NYSC, you probably got some for free.

USE THEM!
2. OCP - Oral contraceptive pills. These are pills you take EVERYDAY. It might be difficult for some people to do judiciously at first, but people generally get used to it.

It could have some side effects like irregular periods, but can also help with cramps
3. The Shot - This is a one time injection that lasts 3 months.
It can cause side effects like weight gain but its quite effective after being used.

Fertility, might be delayed for a while after you stop taking the shot
4. Implant. - These are implanted into you arm and contains hormones that prevent pregnancy and can last for 3 years

It can be removed at any time and the contraceptive effects cease when it is removed

Side effects include irregular periods and weight gain.
5. Intrauterine device. - These are small T shaped implants that are inserted into the womb. These last from 3 to as long as 10 years, depending on the Type.

6. Permanent. - Surgical procedure to sterilize (irreversible)

These two are long term options
There is the most reliable option of NOT HAVING SEX.
This is the ONLY option that is a 100% reliable.
Abstinence

Also remember that contraception doesn't protect against Sexually Transmitted Infections. Only Condoms do , so it is still IMPORTANT to always use a CONDOM.
Despite all these options, and u indulge in unprotected sex, there is a Morning After Pill, to help prevent pregnancy.
This should ideally be taken within 72 hours, of the sexual act and should not be taken more than 4 times a yr

Can cause irregularities in the Menstrual cycle
Unplanned pregnancies change lives, and rarely for the better, especially in our clime.
Abortions are Illegal and you can die trying to get one .
Talk to your healthcare provider and get contraceptives.
