As I am replaying it right now... thread of opinions on SOTTR
The start of the game drags. We had this whole oh no I’m suddenly dropped in and unprepared thing twice before. Shouldn’t have happened here.
This makes me sound like a graphic whore but... npcs, enemies, animals and even Lara at times look... bad. Idk what happened here but it’s off putting. I think they put the power into building Paititi? It’s just distracting to see this as environments are gorgeous.
I just find it interesting more than anything. The quality varies so much between the 3 titles. It’s just strange seeing such low quality models in such a high quality environment ya know?
The tombs in the game are epic and beautiful. The puzzles are challenging and for the first time in forever I found myself looking to the walkthroughs by @stellalune.
I think the game played so much homage to earlier titles in the series through its tombs. The path of battle felt straight out of legend or underworld. Raiding them made me feel so nostalgic.
A lot of the game reminds me of previous entries in the series.
TR1- Peru setting
TR2- dagger
TR3/underworld- jungle setting
TR4- consequences plot
Legend/ Underworld- some tombs I suppose?
These are just ones I noticed. Anymore?

San Juan and Cenote are excellent areas. They are a joy to explore and really helped the pacing of the game after it was dominated by paiti
Not to mention cenote had one of my favourite tombs in the game I was blown away when I stumbled upon this
Adding photo mode to the game was a great decision. I’ve wanted it since TR definitive edition and all the PS4 exclusives had it. The TR community are so talented and I love seeing their images. Hopefully if they remaster the reboot trilogy for next gen all the games will have it
Fake killing Jonah again was annoying. They should’ve killed him for real in the name of developing Lara’s character. Him and sam in 2013 of course. In the words of Mathias kill them all (in the name of developing Lara, of course)
They removed so many good features from rise. Expeditions added so much replay value. Respawning enemies made you motivated to upgrade weapons etc. Day/night cycles made the game feel more real. Imagine San Juan at night? Beautiful.
The game has some great outfits. I’m not a big fan on the tribal ones but some of them aren’t too bad. Her explorer ones are some of the best in the reboot series.
So many of the great things in shadow were unfortunately already done in rise. The crypts, hubs with ancient civilisations. If Rise simply didn’t exist everyone would nut on shadow and possibly even Paititi.
Why didn’t they give Lara a backpack by shadow? One of my biggest pet peeves since 2013 was the way weapons disappeared. It’s such an easy solution to change something that looks so unrealistic.
