he fought against SBUB (sykt borneo utara british) along with his 900 other Murut warriors (1915) they had nothing but those parangs & lembings. he was the leader & was only 30 during that time!

They burnt SBUB& #39;s office in Pensiangan. it was a succesful move but 400 ppl from SBUB then attacked Antanom& #39;s fort in Rundum. The fight lasted for 6 weeks & 400 warriors died including Antanom himself. The war was known as & #39;Kebangkitan Rundum& #39;.

The fact that they& #39;re living in Rundum & the British are in Pensiangan. According to today& #39;s google map, Rundum-Pensiangan is 207km away which takes 2-3 hours of drive. They had no transportations during that day. THEY. WALKED. THEIR. WAY. TO. FIGHT. THE. BRITISH.

So there are a few factors that has caused the rage among the Murut people. The war was to fight for their rights & pride.

Factor 1:
SBUB didn& #39;t allow the Muruts to buka tanah IN THEIR OWN LAND. Which resulted in the decreasing amount of rice :((( They had food crisis for a while.

Factor 2:
SBUB charged stupid & unnecesary taxes on them. The people had to pay $1 per head, 25 cents per coconut tree used for tuak (traditional alcoholic drink), $1 per pet dogs. Worst of all, tax is charged if they caught a huge fish :)))

Factor 3:
Forced labour among the Muruts to build the telegraph wires from Tenom to Rundum. Not to mention that the Sabah State Railway that we know today (formerly known as North Borneo Railway) was built by the Muruts too. Perhaps we will talk about this soon.

Factor 4:
SBUB decided that families cannot stay together in 1 house. Husbands & wives were separated by... the river. Sorg di tebing sebelah, sorg lagi di sebelah. If a family had 2 children, 1 of them must work for SBUB. forced labour, AGAIN.

Factor 5:
Back in the day, most Muruts practices animism & paganism. When the British destroyed the lands of Murut to build the roads, they were mad bcs that& #39;d make their roh nenek moyang/roh alam that resides there mad & turunkan bala on them.

But now let& #39;s talk about Antanom alone tho. He came from the Murut Tagol ancestry. Tagol was considered as the & #39;royals& #39; & highly respected in the Murut community & growing up, he was raised to be a fighter/warrior of his kampung.

I heard stories from org2 tua @ my kampung that one day, the Dayaks threaten to beheaded his villagers (known as adat ngayau/mengayau) to rule the kampung but he fought them!!!

He& #39;s a black magic practitioner too! When he was burnt & shot few times by the British, he didn& #39;t die. Legend said he laughed when he was on fire tho

But not until the British threatened him to reveal his weaknesses or his followers will die. Antanom sacrificed himself, he exposed himself for the sake of his people & eventually, he died. RIP LEGEND

My grandma said his physique was amazing & very down to earth. quite handsome kalau ikut the standard there

A whole statue of Antanom was built in Tenom but it was removed few years ago since his family members claimed that the statue doesn& #39;t look like Antanom at all

As a Murut myself, i highly respect him & appreciates him for the freedom of the Murut ppl. I still don& #39;t understand why dalam buku teks sejarah ada diceritakan ttg Antanom but he was never seen as important as the other warriors. Rarely became a topic in SPM either.

Nonetheless, he was SLEPT on. why? because of his fights that seemed to be only for the Murut people & unimportant for the state. He was seen as barbaric (sebab dari bangsa penggal kepala) by some of the non-Murut Sabahans itself and that& #39;s on racism, luv.

OH, AND HE WAS SAID TO HAVE THE SUPERNATURAL POWER TO TALK WITH ANIMALS & NATURE TOO.
