I picked med school @TAMUmedicine and residency/fellowship @bswhealth_Templ because of the cultures I saw in person. Without live interviews, how can we convey this? #medtwitter, give real examples of your culture in action for #MedStudentTwitter. I’ll start! 1/
As a second year med student, I was invited to bring my husband and toddler to dinner at @dr_c_cable’s house. He befriended my husband, and they’re still pen pals 7 years later. He’s our #GME DIO. 2/
As a PGY2, my brother died & my dad was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor in a span of weeks. Our PD @mettingal heard the news and called me on my cell phone to check on me—and made sure I took the time off he knew I needed, even if I didn’t recognize I needed it then. 3/
Around that same time, @GutGirlMD found out about the above in the middle of GI rounds and stopped immediately in the hallway to pray with me. I had known her for a week. 4/
@TresaMcNealMD brings me chicken pot pies every time I have a baby (three times so far)—and has spent countless hours helping me navigate existential crises over lunch. It is an honor to call her my mentor and friend—and she’s our Chair of Medicine. 5/
@DrArgyle redirected a patient who made inappropriate comments toward the female residents during CVICU rounds. When we walked out, he asked “Did I handle that okay?” 6/
I could go on, but I think you get the picture. I’m a @sw_imed #imed chief resident about to start heme/onc fellowship at my first choice program—right here where I truly belong. Now it’s your turn: show us your #GMEculture!
