To help inspire students and parents to try reading something new we will be tweeting book recommendations from our staff, starting with the English Faculty #okecollegebooks
First up is Miss Hawkins. She recommends A Hitchhiker& #39;s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams... "The perfect bit of funny nonsense for times like these!" #okecollegebooks
Mrs Derks ( @AntjeDoel) is next with Hamnet by Maggie O& #39;Farrell. "It’s based on Shakespeare’s son Hamnet - or Hamlet. He was a twin and died of the plague as a young boy. It’s absolutely brilliant." #okecollegebooks
For today& #39;s recommendation Mr Lindley has chosen Mary Shelley& #39;s Frankenstein which he says is "arguably the only book I& #39;ve ever read that genuinely terrified me when I read it" #okecollegebooks
Mrs Foley-Bearne - Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman "...is about a social misfit with a traumatic past. There is humour and sadness. It deals with themes of isolation, loneliness and depicts her journey towards a fuller understanding of herself and life."
It& #39;s Wednesday so why not try Mrs Tovey& #39;s recommendation?
The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris. "This is an extraordinary true story of survival and love" #okecollegebooks
The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris. "This is an extraordinary true story of survival and love" #okecollegebooks
A trilogy from Mrs Gresswell - The Chaos Walking Trilogy. "The novels are dystopian fiction, which I love. The premise is that the future has become a world of savage competition, where it’s literally ‘every man for himself’" 1/2
"The intriguing part is that something has happened and that now your thoughts are heard out loud to everyone around you; meaning there is no such thing as privacy any more- even inside your own head- this has huge consequences for the characters as the plot develops." 2/2
