—Frost Bites
A Wendy Yugyeom Narrative AU

“Please, take me back,” Yugyeom begged as his tears started to fall.

With a stern voice Wendy replied, “no.”

The night was cold,
The frosty air sent bites all over Wendy’s skin,
Her hair was flowing with the wind.

Everyone who walked past both of them kept glancing. It was obvious that the two were having an argument.

“Why won’t you take me back? Don’t you love me anymore? I just want to feel you embrace me again.” Yugyeom’s voice cracked as he spoke.

He tried to reach for Wendy’s arm but as soon she noticed his arm moved, she took a step back.

“We can’t just stay together just because we love each other. Relationships are more than just love, Yugyeom.” Wendy answered.

Wendy looked at Yugyeom, it’s obvious that he has a stable job now. Probably a good paying one. His branded polo shirt, watch and shoes proves it.

Unlike before—
when Yugyeom had nothing.

When Yugyeom had nothing
but Wendy.

Wendy who kept working her ass off to pay the bills. Wendy who has always have to rush a presentation for tomorrow. Wendy who’s been struggling to keep it together.

Keep it together for her and her love, Yugyeom.

Wendy wanted to cry but she couldn’t feel anything, “you seem to be doing okay now.”

“Wendy, please,” Yugyeom held her arms. This time Wendy allowed it.

His hands still felt warm. Wendy had always known that his hands made her felt safe.

But holding her in his warm hugs didn’t, feed them, didn’t make the workload lighter, nor make the world spin slower.

Loving Yugyeom was hard but Wendy patiently held on— until one night, a day before her birthday she received a message.

Wendy didn’t— she never understood.

“Yugyeom, why? Why are you trying to get me back? Never did I say, never even once— that I was tired. That I was tired of loving you, of feeding you, of taking care of you, or seeing the future with you. You’re the one who left me.—

—Why is it so easy for you to throw me away and comeback as if I’m willing to be picked up again when I already could walk on my own?” Wendy retorted bitterly.

There were no tears on her eyes.
No furrow on her brows.
Just plain old nonchalance.

Yugyeom stood there and lifted his head. He tried to stop the tears from falling.

How could he break her heart so much, that she just stood there plain faced saying everything he has done to hurt her?

“Please, I know that I was a jerk and a loser but I’ve changed now. I’ve got a well-paying job and I own a condominium in the business district. Please, I’ll make you happy this time Wendy. I’ll give back everything you have ever done for me or even more, so much more.”

Is this some form of gratitude? Wendy thought.

“Yugyeom, you don’t understand. This isn’t about paying back for what I did for you. I did all of those because I loved you. Everything you could give me now could never equal to all of the sacrifices and pain that caused me to love you.“

“It can never equal every tear that was shed. Every muscle pain from work that was felt. Every disappointment I’ve come across. Please, for the last time—man up and let me go.”

Wendy walked away quietly. Yugyeom didn’t try to reach out or run after her. He just let her go and break his heart into pieces.

Just like what he did that day before her birthday.
