TW !
the topics are listed before getting into any detail or explanation, if you feel uncomfortable about any of them then just stop reading.

islam is a religion. anyone of any background can be a muslim. not all muslims are arabs.
arab is an ethicity. not all arabs are muslims. there are muslim arabs, christian arabs, jewish arabs etc.
DON'T mix these two please.
religion is a personal choice.

— women's rights
women rights didn't exist in the arab world before islam. women were seen as the inferior part of society. baby girls were buried the moment they were born because having girls was considered a shame to the family. women were forced into arranged marriages,
women rights didn't exist in the arab world before islam. women were seen as the inferior part of society. baby girls were buried the moment they were born because having girls was considered a shame to the family. women were forced into arranged marriages,
nobody asked them if they wanted or were ready to get married. women were treated like OBJECTS, they didn't inherit anyone, only men did. instead, they were considered as part of the legacy, therefore they were passed between men as if they were equal to zero. until islam came.
islam gave women RIGHTS. islam stood up for women and taught people that they were equal to men. that they have the right for family legacy. that they have the right to get AN EDUCATION. that they have the right to CHOOSE their life partner. islam gave women a voice.
although the toxic old arabic culture is still existent nowadays, and way too many women are STILL treated unfairly by their partners and families, that's only to be blamed on individuals, not islam itself. in educated, arab, muslim families, women are considered "the crowns"
of the family. it's a nice compliment in arabic and it means they're pretty much the pride of the family. they're highly respected and that's how it should be.
— violence
violence is STRICTLY PROHIBITED in islam. islam means peace in arabic, so saying islam is violent is just baffling. our prophet, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) never hit a living thing throughout his whole life, not a woman, not a man, not an animal.

and even with objects, he was still gentle. as in no throwing around things out of anger or breaking things whatsoever. nor he ever got angry at anyone, even at those who hurt him, physically and emotionally. he remained humble and treated everyone the same way.
imagine keeping your calm with people who spread lies and talked badly about you, people who physically harmed you and treated you like garbage, people who tried to kill you. he fought hate with kindness, and it's really something to look up to.
so, no, men abusing their wives physically and mentally/verbally isn't permissible in islam.
— jihad
western people are TERRIFIED of this word and it's honestly hilarious. jihad means spreading islam, defending islam and fighting those who are actively against islam. basically me doing this thread is considered jihad, as i'm fighting those trying to ruin islam's image.

there's way too much misinformation about this. muslims NEVER started wars for the purpose of spreading islam. spreading islam was important, but that's NOT how it was done. muslims went to war to put an end to oppression, and that was AFTER several encounters with
the given leader/king of a certain tribe, territory or country. people were being mistreated, only those with high ranks and from "important families" mattered, no one really cared about the ordinary people. not only that, but slavery, slave trade and a lot of racism too.
so, normally, after those leaders still not agreeing that everyone is equal and must be treated equally, they'd go to war to save those people from mistreatment.
during war, in islam, it is PROHIBITED to kill women, children, elders, animals, anyone who surrenders or runs away, anyone who's hiding or praying in temple, a monk, a priest or a sick person. it is prohibited to cut a tree, destroy a house, a temple or a church.
it is prohibited to disfigure the dead, it's a very big sin in islam. it is also prohibited to enforce islam on anyone ever, not only during war.
(you only get to kill those who come to kill YOU or any of your people on the stated // battlefield //)
(you only get to kill those who come to kill YOU or any of your people on the stated // battlefield //)
mass killing during war is prohibited because you don't know whose lives you're taking.
killing fellow muslims during war is prohibited.
AND most importantly, killing ANYONE for ANY reason is also prohibited. you're going to hell and never coming out of it.

— ramadan
as christians have their calendar which is based on the sun, we also have our calendar which is based on the moon, with our own months. ramadan is one of those months. since it's a lunar calendar = a month has 29/30 days, ramadan (and every other month) come earlier

each year by about 10 days. ramadan is the holiest month of the year. during this month, the holy Quran (our religious book, like the Bible) was revealed to our prophet, Muhammad (PBUH). during ramadan, we fast from food, drinks, cursing, sex etc. from dawn til dusk.
one of the main reasons why we fast is so we can acknowledge all the blessings in our lives that we usually don't pay attention to. by not eating nor drinking, we think of all the people living in poverty, people facing hunger, people who don't have access to potable water etc.
the difference between us and them is that we get to eat a generous meal at the end of the day, while some of them wait weeks just to get a bite of bread. so even this way, we still live in a big blessing and words aren't enough to express how thankful one should be for this.
another main reason would be to learn how to become PATIENT and how to discipline ourselves. we should be calmer, deal with things with a better mind than before, endure cravings and lusts and basically learn how to control ourselves and know where to draw the line at.
during ramadan, we strive to be the best muslims we can be. from doing lots of charity, to lots of prayers, to reading and understanding Quran, to helping our friends and families. ramadan brings out a different side of us, so you might notice lots of (good) changes in someone
who probably wasn't really a good person before, during this month, which is really amazing.
in general, there's a reward for every good deed we do but in ramadan these rewards are doubled. this shows how kind and generous God is with us.

— hijab
muslim women are required to wear hijab once they start getting their menstrual cycle/when puberty hits. hijab doesn't only mean covering your hair but also your whole body except for your face and hands. burka and niqab AREN'T enforced, it's a personal CHOICE.

wearing hijab is an obligation from God. parents, men or anyone else are NOT allowed to force their girls/wives to wear hijab. it's prohibited. if someone forces you to wear it, you do it with disgust therefore it's better not to wear it if you're not ready yet.
the reason why women have to wear hijab and men don't is simply because they're beautiful. no this doesn't mean men aren't beautiful but they have a different type of beauty that shouldn't be shown to everyone. if you wear hijab, you can't show your hair/body to men that aren't
your dad/brother/husband/fiancé. women can show their hair/body to any other woman, relative or stranger.
by wearing hijab, it means you're wearing it forever and never taking it off. there's no such thing as "i'm wearing it today but tomorrow i won't because it's too hot"

if you're a man, be careful with hijabi women (and any muslim woman in general) and don't touch them inappropriately. don't hug them out of nowhere or try to kiss their cheeks like you do with your other classmates. it's very uncomfortable.
hijab also signifies purity.

— menstruation
the menstruation cycle is something given from above, it's not a shame. during this time, muslim women aren't allowed to pray, fast, touch the Quran or have sex. western people view this as a form of "discrimination" towards women but it's really not.

in order to do the listed things above, you have to be clean and pure. blood =/= purity. not just menstrual blood, any type of blood. i PROMISE no muslim woman ever felt "oppressed" because of this. please stop dramatising and overreacting, this isn't your religion to begin with.
— food
halal = permissible
haram = prohibited
any type of food is halal unless it contains pork or alcohol. if it does, it becomes haram. cooking and eating already dead animals and blood or eating electrocuted, strangled, tortured animals is also haram.

we can eat meat from any muslim/christian/jewish country/family because they're considered the "people of the book", we all believe in one God therefore the meat is HALAL already. if we, for example, go to countries like korea or japan, we'd have to strictly eat meat from halal
restaurants and buy meat from halal butcher shops OR just go vegetarian, because they're considered atheists for believing in more than a god or none at all. this shouldn't offend anyone, muslims ought to respect everyone's beliefs and traditions and demand the same respect back.
regarding fish and sea food everything is halal.
i PROMISE you, no muslim craves to taste pork, it's not that deep, please get over it. pigs eat anything they find therefore their meat is NOT healthy and that's why it's haram.
regarding alcohol, it was halal to drink at first

regarding alcohol, it was halal to drink at first
but with moderation, without getting drunk. but when it was time to pray, someone got drunk and when it was time to pray, they peed in the mosque which is more than disrespectful and disgusting. some people may be able to control themselves, but you can't guarantee that everyone
will be able to, that's why it's haram for everyone. getting drunk never lead to anything good, from car accidents to people getting violent and slaughtering their entire family and the list goes on and on. there's plenty of good drinks that don't make you lose your mind.
— animals
killing animals is only halal for the purpose of food. killing wild animals for the purpose of using their skins and furs to make or wear fancy clothes or hang their heads in your room is HARAM.
we slaughter animals for eids (religious feasts) to give to the poor.

people complaining about muslims for slaughtering thousands of animals for eid and comparing it to the food industry and how wasteful they are is complete nonsense. we're not gonna give the poor salad and avocados, that's not how it works.....

this is the halal islamic method of slaughtering animals and you can find more online but i think it's pretty clear.
now, animals should be treated gently and with kindness like any other living being. feeding/giving water to a hungry/thirsty animal can get you to heaven while treating animals badly, beating them or letting them starve can get you to hell.
important !
the holy Quran is a 14 century old book, it's written in HEAVY arabic and not even adults can fully understand it. the arabic we use in our daily lives is very poor compared to the one in Quran. this is why you'll find plenty of wrong translations online.

muslim scientists had explained the Quran to us and there are many books explaining thoroughly every verse in the Quran. if you wanna know about something in islam, better ask your muslim friends about it instead of searching online.
if you're confused about anything, you can always ask me respectfully and i'll be pleased to answer anyone as far as my knowledge goes.
i'm only sixteen years old, there's a lot more i still have to learn and will learn as i get older but i hope this thread helped at least someone learn more about islam or change their mind in a good way about it.
please remember toxic culture =/= religion!!!!
i love you.
