Afternoon America, your fave disaster trained Funeral Director Chad here. #Thread

I want to talk to you about where we currently are in this disaster and the steps you need to be taking personally at this time.

Let’s start with the full recognition that this is a disaster.
Families are losing homes and shelter, there are mass food shortages for large portions of our population. 10’s of thousands of ppl have died. And millions have lost their jobs.
It may not seem like it though because there are no swaths of destroyed buildings. We have no dead in our streets. The stock market has not crashed and Gov will only refer to this as a pandemic not a national disaster.
All of this brings its own form of chaos and problems to a disaster, problems that are playing out in the media right now. Battles over opening, the hiding/ fudging of data and the politicization of what needs to happen now.
Putting all of that aside, I want to talk directly to you about right now, this moment in time and going forward from it and 1 word “Alertness”.

Every disaster reaches a moment when a routine sets in, safety starts to become the norm and you start to transition back.
Without data, our Gov and States have decided that this is that moment. That point where we can go back and open up.

This time of a disaster is often the most dangerous for everyone involved. You drop Alertness and your guard, you become complacent in the protective measures.
I know you are weary, I can see it in the public. Ppl going out and taking pointless risk to regain control of their lives.

You have to be strong though and pull back that Alertness to what is going on around you. You are now fully in charge of your risk factors!
If those around you will not properly social distance, leave. If they will not wear a mask to protect you, leave. Stay Alert to your surroundings and the ppl. If a large crowd forms, leave.

It’s your Alertness right now and going forward that will keep you safe.
I fear as a nation that all the social distancing and pain we have endured so far will be for not as we move forward from this moment. I see that pandemic raging here well into 2021 as there becomes a large group of the population that decides to YOLO this and quits...
... any and all precautions.

I pray for us all and want to tell you that you are not alone. I too have had to be mindful of my alertness these last couple of weeks. Surviving a disaster is not about being alive at the end, it’s about being able to rebuild at the end. Chad
