BIG NEWS: This week, we’re celebrating 35 years of EMILY’s List!

35 years of electing pro-choice Democratic women.
35 years of breaking barriers.
35 years of changing the face of American politics.
When EMILY’s List was founded in 1985, there were only 12 Democratic women serving in Congress — and no Democratic women serving in the Senate.

35 years later, there are 104 pro-choice Democratic women serving in Congress — including 17 women in the Senate. #EMILYTurns35
How did that happen? Because EMILY’s List women challenged the “Old Boys Network” and we helped them raise the early money they needed to do it.
In 35 years, we’ve elected:

✔️ 150 pro-choice Democratic women to the House
✔️ 26 to the Senate
✔️ 16 to governors' seats
✔️ And more than 1,100 women to state and local office
We’ve celebrated so many barrier-breaking, history-making women — including the first Black woman elected to the Senate, the first Latina elected to the Senate, and the first Native women, the first Muslim women, and the first LGBTQ+ women elected to Congress.
We helped elect the first Democratic Latina governor, the first LGBTQ+ woman governor, the first openly transgender state legislator, the first Latina mayor of one of the country’s 10 largest cities, and so many more.

And we’re not slowing down!
Today our work spans far beyond just Congress. We invest money in state & local elections all across the country — helping to change who’s representing us in city hall, in the state house, and in statewide office.
PLUS, we’ve created resources to help train more than 50,000 women who've signed up to run for office in the last four years.

We’ve built a platform of in-person trainings, online resources, & community mentorship to help train & inspire the next generation of women leaders.
Cheers to 𝟯𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 of electing women. Thank you all for being a part of it! #EMILYTurns35
