We had dozens of union members ready to participate in expanded bargaining. As expected from the experience of other unions, this transparent and democratic approach scares the administration: the union members will actually SEE how the administration behaves in bargaining.

With open bargaining, we move away from relying on the idea that the perfect argument/logic/proposal will get us what we want. That is not the source of union power, especially not across the table from union-busting attorneys paid 4x as much as us. Our power=our members.
