I just feel so fucking broken. The western fast fashion retailers have cancelled over $10 MILLION USD orders from dirt cheap labour in Bangladesh, and this has led to overflowing inventory and THOUSANDS of people being unpaid during the pandemic, no eid bonuses, left starving
The UK fast fashion retailers refusing to pay workers in Bangladesh are Arcadia (aka @Topshop) and Peacocks @peacocks
When you buy fashion fashion and cheap clothing, ask whose backs these are made with, and what these brands did for those workers during a Global Pandemic
the garments (RMG) industry accounts for 82% of our total exports, and employs MILLIONS (3.6 million). this is due to foreign demand for cheap fashion, they’re paid pennies on the dollar for a $60 jacket you’d buy in H&M. 90% of the workers are women from low income areas.
These brands @peacocks are refusing to pay for garments THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN MADE AND SENT https://twitter.com/press4change/status/1261991779634683904?s=21
if you feel as helpless as I did, please consider signing this petition in the meanwhile to raise awareness and stand in solidarity with Bangladeshi workers to force these fast fashion brands to be shamed into paying up!!
