In the past week, we have learned rather conclusively that the biggest risk for transmitting Coronavirus is prolonged exposure to exhaled particles in an enclosed environment. Not surfaces; rarely outdoors. Policymakers must pivot now, and adeptly. (Thread)
For example: Instead of debating “when should school reopen?” — they should be discussing, “how will schools reopen?”

Holding distanced classes under shade parasols on the schoolyard is one pragmatic answer.
The same goes for businesses. There is too much nastiness, rancor, & angst over categories of businesses that can open. Minutiae about #s allowed in any restaurant, etc. Instead, we should allow biz to make good use of our outdoors space and streets — especially in summer months.
And for the love of God, people need exercise, sunshine, and a change of pace and mood. Trails, etc should not be closed anymore.

Rather than punishing everyone, just enforce against the worst wrongdoers.
Calm reassurance & truth from policymakers has a value.

Respect the dangers — and your fellow humans.

But the “bleach your groceries” / “wear gloves when touching your mail” / “don’t walk past your neighbor” fearmongers in positions of power need to stop scaring people.
After all, it is a perceived lack of honesty and a sense of alarmism that contributed to the rules fatigue we are seeing now.
