2/ PLEASE give yourself the same grace you gave your students. These were hard to read & it’s easy to be defensive. But, it’s important to remember that what we did these last few months was not #onlineteaching. It was triage & constant readjustment of expectations, theirs & ours
3/ Evaluations from this semester do not define you as a teacher/mentor, nor are they an accurate reflection of your pedagogy or effectiveness. We were in survival mode, trying to keep track of and support students and colleagues, while dealing w/ our own traumas at home. But...
4/ We can learn from these student evals. I did the best I could AND I could’ve done a better job meeting some of their needs. I can read between the lines of harsh criticisms to recognize their stress & grief while reflecting on how I can be more prepared for this next round.
5/ And I can remember that the support I provided & tears I shared w/ students can’t/won’t be captured in a course evaluation. Please be gentle with yourself as you reflect on this semester in the coming weeks. We did the best we could AND we can always listen & do better.
